Kile-Benson Cemetery

A Family Burial Ground
Kile-Benson Cemetery is also known as Kile Homeplace Cemetery and Benson Family Cemetery. The burial ground was established when Thomas Kile owned the property. His daughter, Mahulda Kile Benson, and other members of her family are buried in this small cemetery.
Remembering Enoch Benson
Enoch Benson, a veteran of the American Revolutionary War, is also believed to be buried here. Documentation has not confirmed the location of his grave, but a rock-covered grave within the cemetery is traditionally believed to be his.
A cenotaph, or memorial marker, honoring Enoch Benson is located at Sugar Hill Historic Cemetery in Sugar Hill, Georgia.
Location and Preservation
Kile-Benson Cemetery is located on Sycamore Road in Sugar Hill, Georgia, approximately 1.6 miles from Georgia Highway 20 toward Buford Dam and across from Lanier Middle School.
During several workdays in September and October 2019, volunteers removed fallen tree limbs and overgrown vegetation from the cemetery and the area surrounding its fence. The fence had been installed in 2016 as an Eagle Scout project.
Volunteers cleaned nine ground vaults, placed new pea gravel throughout the cemetery, and added landscaping and shrubs outside the fence.
Continuing Remembrance
Each April and October, the Suwanee Creek Chapter, NSDAR, places a U.S. Flag at the gravesite traditionally believed to be that of Enoch Benson. In December, a wreath is placed there through Wreaths Across America.
