Honoring Those Who Served
Service to veterans is one of our chapter’s most important commitments. Through personal acts of care, preservation of firsthand accounts, cemetery research, and community remembrance, the Suwanee Creek Chapter, NSDAR, honors the men and women who served our country and helps ensure their stories are not forgotten.
Gratitude in Action
Gratitude is most meaningful when put into action. Our members honor veterans through visits, handwritten notes, meals, care packages, donations of personal care items, handmade supplies, and community events. We also support veterans facilities, remembrance ceremonies, and military members currently serving.
In Their Own Words
Every veteran carries a story worth preserving. Created by Congress in 2000, the Veterans History Project (VHP) is housed in the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. It collects firsthand accounts from U.S. military veterans who served from World War I through recent conflicts and peacekeeping missions.

Recorded interviews, letters, diaries, photographs, memoirs, and other personal materials allow veterans to share their experiences in their own words. Preserved for future generations, these collections help families, students, researchers, and the public better understand the courage, challenges, and realities of military service.
A Community Remembers
Throughout the year, our chapter joins local communities to honor those who served, remember those who gave their lives, and thank the families who shared in their sacrifice. We participate in Memorial Day, September 11 remembrance, and Veterans Day ceremonies, as well as wreath layings, proclamations, and Patriot grave marker dedications.

These gatherings bring neighbors together in gratitude and remembrance while keeping alive the stories of those whose courage and service helped shape our nation.
A Garden of Remembrance
The Never Forget Garden initiative began in 2018 as a nationwide invitation to create living tributes honoring veterans, their families, and all who have served and sacrificed. Created in connection with the centennial of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, each garden offers a place for remembrance, reflection, and gratitude.

Our chapter sponsors and maintains a Never Forget Garden beside the Veterans Memorial in Sugar Hill, Georgia. It offers our community a beautiful place to pause, reflect, and remember our promise to never forget.

Each December, one of our largest service projects brings neighbors together to remember local veterans. Our chapter sponsors and coordinates Wreaths Across America ceremonies at three locations:

During each tribute, wreaths are placed on veterans’ graves and their names are spoken aloud. This simple but powerful tradition ensures that their service, sacrifice, and place in our community’s history are not forgotten.
Preserving Their Place in History
Every veteran’s grave holds a story of service. By researching church and burial records, grave markers, military records, and local history, our chapter identifies veterans laid to rest in area cemeteries. Each April and October, members place U.S. Flags in holders at their graves in preparation for Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

This work preserves both their resting places and their personal stories, inviting families and neighbors to pause, remember, and give thanks.
